"One More Time" actor Christopher Walken is in negotiations to star in the family comedy "The War with Grandpa" opposite "Heist" actor Robert De Niro. Walken and De Niro are ready to wage war.

According to Variety, Walken will play the role of the best friend of De Niro's character in "The War with Grandpa." The Weinstein Company's film is directed by "Alvin and the Chipmunks" director Tim Hill.

"The War with Grandpa" talks about a boy forced to move out of his room when his recently widowed grandfather moves in. The boy devises outrageous pranks to make his grandfather surrender the room with the help of his friends. However, he turned out to be tougher than expected and all-out war ensues.

"The War with Grandpa" is based on the 1984 children's book by Robert Kimmel Smith of the same name. The film's script was first written by "Amateur Night" writers Lisa Addario and Joe Syracuse. It was, later on, improved by "Epic" writer Matt Ember and "Get Smart" writer Tom Astle.

The producers of "The War with Granpa" are Philip Glasser of "Mafia," Marvin Peart of "Escape from Planet Earth," and Rosa Morris Peart of "Life on the Line." The executive producers include Jane Rosenthal and Barry Welsh.

"The War with Grandpa" was said to be a "Deer Hunter" reunion since Walken and De Niro also acted together in the said 1978's war drama film directed by Michael Cimino. It earned them Oscar nominations. Walken took home the gold statuette for best actor in a supporting role, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

Walken swung onto the screen this April by voicing the iconic King Louie in Jon Favreau's CG/live-action take on Disney's "The Jungle Book." He is repped by ICM Partners.

"The War with Grandpa" will be financed and produced by Marro Films and will be distributed by Dimension. It is set to hit theaters nationwide on April 21, 2017.
