NBA News & Rumors: Cavaliers rookie Kay Felder will miss regular season opener due to concussion

Cleveland Cavaliers rookie point guard Kay Felder has to miss opening game of the regular season due to concussion. He was injured after accidentally being hit in the head during Friday practice.

Cavaliers head coah Tyronn Lue confirmed the rookie point guard will miss the game against the New York Knicks on Tuesday as reported by Cleveland.com. He was accidentally elbowed to the head by the much taller center, Chris Andersen during a scrimmage.

"Kay is so little so when he did the swim he hit him with the elbow across his eye," coach Lue said.

As a comparison, Felder is a 5'9" point guard and Andersen is 6'10" center and power forward. With that size difference, Felder's head is at the same height as Andersen's elbow, when the center tried to go, his elbow hit Felder.

Coach Lue will maximize his two point guards, the main Kyrie Irving with Iman Shumpert as the backup. He can also play DeAndre Liggins as the point guard as well.

During his college basketball career, Felder is the excellent playmaking. He led the NCAA Horizon Leadue in assist with 7.8 assists per game. After three seasons with Oakland University Golden Grizzlies he declared himself eligible for NBA draft. Atlanta Hawks selected Felder as 54th overall in the 2016 NBA Draft, he was acquired by the Cavaliers on draft night.

He showed a promising start in the NBA as he played in the 2016 NBA Summer League. According to FOX News, Felder played in all seven games and become starter in six games. He averaged 15.3 points, 3.9 assissts, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 29.9 minutes.

After watching his impressive performance in the NBA Summer League, coach Lue tried to play him in rotation during the preseason games. Felder averaged 8.8 points, 3.7 assists and 2.2 rebounds in 23.3 minutes per game.
