Here’s why ‘Ruler: Master of the Mask’ is a must-watch historical drama

Kim So Hyun and Yoo Seung Ho's newest historical drama titled "Ruler: Master of the Mask" is currently leading the race against "Suspicious Partner" and "Mystery Queen" for mid-week programs.

In fact, the MBC series recorded an increase in viewership for its third and fourth episodes aired May 11. According to Soompi, "Ruler: Master of the Mask" earned 10.5 and 12.6 percent ratings for last night's episodes.

With these figures, the historical drama is expected to receive amass popularity from K-drama fans from all over the world. Aside from its star-studded lineup that includes Infinite's L and Yoon Soo Hee, "Ruler: Master of the Mask" also caught the interest of the viewers for its intriguing plot.

Hence, DramaFever laid down a few reasons why this period series will dominate this year's lineup of K-dramas. First, the outlet pointed out how the drama opened with a Western-like feels. In the premiere episode, "Ruler: Master of the Mask" featured some familiar rituals we've seen not in K-dramas, but in Hollywood series.

The new MBC drama was also compared to Lee Joon Gi's "Scarlet Heart Ryeo" for having the same concept of masked lead actors. Aside from that, viewers are excited to witness how L's character will bloom in the upcoming episodes of "Ruler: Master of the Mask."

Similarly, fans are looking forward to see more of L and Kim So Hyun's romance especially after seeing their first encounter in the episode 2. Let's not forget to include Yoo Seung Ho on the list of reasons to watch "Ruler: Master of the Mask."
