‘We Got Married’ canceled after 9-year run? MBC explains need to ax one long-running program

MBC admitted they are currently in talks to cancel a long-running program from the network. However, an insider clarified the higher ups have yet to decide what program to withdraw.

The statement was released in light of reports on "We Got Married's" possible cancellation after nine years of airing.  "It is time to reorganize and we are preparing a pilot program," a network insider said as per Soompi.

The source went on, "One consideration to result from this process was cancellation of a long-running program. However, specific programs have not been discussed in regard to cancellation."

Meanwhile, PD of the reality show refused to address cancellation rumors surrounding "We Got Married." He, however, said that they are currently filming and that he will have to verify the reports first before making an official statement.

The MBC program matched four couples for their pilot episode which was released in February 2008.

"We Got Married" Season 1 formally kicked off on March 16 with couples Alex and Shin Ae, Crown J and Seo In Young, Andy and Solbi, and Jung Hyung Don and Saori.

Currently, the show, at its fourth season, features the virtual marriage of three pairs including Lee Guk Joo and Sleepy, Gong Myung and Jung Hye Sung, and Choi Min Young and Jang Do Yeon.

The popular reality show expanded through its global edition where celebrities from Korea, Japan and Taiwan are being paired. According to Yahoo, MBC reached a deal with Sony Pictures for the international version of variety show.

For the first season of "We Got Married" global edition, 2PM's Taecyeon was paired with Taiwanese singer Emma Wu, while FTISLAND's Lee Hong Ki married Japanese actress Mina Fujii on the program.

Amidst popularity its popularity, the MBC show was not spared by controversies. Previously, the integrity of "We Got Married" was put on the line when previous cast members got involved in dating scandals amidst filming for the show.

Despite past issues and recent cancellation rumors, "We Got Married" is still one of the most watched weekend programs as of yet. Catch your favorite couple on the MBC show every Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
