After roughly four years of wait, Attack on Titan will apparently run for only 12 episodes and release two Blu-Ray and DVD sets for its second season, as posted on its official Twitter account.
Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, Armin Artlert, Captain Levi and the rest of the Survey Corps will return to the small screen but only for a good 12-week run with Attack on Titan Season 2 listed with 12 episodes.
"The official Twitter account for the Attack on Titan anime revealed on Thursday that is planning a total of two Blu-ray Disc and DVD sets for the anime's second season. Each set will have six episodes, for a total of 12 episodes.
The first Blu-ray Disc and DVD will ship in Japan on June 21 and the second will ship on August 18. Both releases will include a VR movie, and the first will include VR goggles."
The update comes as a disappointment to most Attack on Titan hardcore fans, who have waited four years for the second installment of the post-apocalyptic anime hit. The first series ran for 25 episodes (from April 7 to September 29, 2013), not including three OVA episodes.
An anime adaptation of Hajime Isayama's manga series, Attack on Titan turned out to be a blockbuster sensation in 2013 with its dark theme and intriguing plot lines. Attack on Titan/ Shingeki no Kyojin Season 2 is expected to pick up where the initial story left off, following a group of teenage soldiers seeking for freedom from the tyranny of the human-eating Titans.
Attack on Titan Season 2 will air in Japan on 21 networks, including TV giants Tokyo MX and MBS this Saturday, April 1. Funimation will begin streaming a simulcast version on the same day, and Crunchyroll will also stream the series. In December, Funimation announced that it licensed the second anime season.
