"Mary Magdalene" actor Tahar Rahim is tapped to star in Teddy Lussi-Modeste's sophomore feature "The Price of Success." He headlines a topnotch French cast for Paris-based company Indie Sales.

According to Variety, Rahim will play a stand-up comedian Brahim in "The Price of Success." Joining him stars "Days of Glory" actor Roschdy Zem and "Love is the Perfect Crime" actress Maiwenn in undisclosed roles.

"The Price of Success" is a personal project for Lussi-Modeste and describes the struggle of a man trying to break free of his family's expectations. It tells the tale of Brahim from a working-class family. His success destroys his relationship with his family.

Lussi-Modeste and "Planetarium" scribe Rebecca Zlotowski co-wrote "The Price of Success." They previously teamed to write the script of Lussi-Modeste's directorial debut "Jimmy Riviera," which is a critical success and won the Audience Award at Angers, among other prizes.

Kazak Productions is producing "The Price of Success." A strong key crew includes the cinematographer Julien Poupard behind Houda Benyamina's Golden Globe nominated "Divines" and the well-seasoned editor Julien Lacheray from Celine Sciamma's "Girlhood" and Zlotowski's "Grand Central."

Rahim is recently cast to play Judas Iscariot in Garth Davis' "Mary Magdalene," Deadline reported. Joining him stars Rooney Mara in the lead role, Joaquin Phoenix as Jesus Christ, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Peter, who is one of the 12 apostles and Jesus' lead disciple.

Rahim is also well-known for his critically-acclaimed roles in Jacques Audiard's "A Prophet" and Asghar Fahradi's "The Past," which won prizes in Cannes. Meanwhile, Maiwenn is the high-profile actress-turned-director of "Polisse" and stars in very few films, marking "The Price of Success" her first acting job since "Love is the Perfect Crime."

"The Price of Success" is currently in post-production. Ad Vitam will release it in France later this year. Indie Sales will likely score deals on the movie at the Unifrance Rendez-Vous mini-market in Paris.
