Tarsier Studios releases a new trailer for "Little Nightmares" and reveals the release date for the game, which will be out on April 28.

"Little Nightmares" brings childhood fears to life as a platform stealth game with some puzzle-solving thrown in. The game's aesthetics are similar to Tim Burton's works, with deceptively cute but haunting graphics and a creepy atmosphere, Mirror reported. The player follows a little girl in a yellow coat named Six, who tries to find her way out of The Maw while dodging scary creatures in the way.

In the short demo released for the game, Six tries to sneak around the place without attracting attention from a grotesque-looking chef who will not hesitate to cook her if he catches so much as a glimpse of her. Played from the perspective of a child, one of the striking features of the game is the sense of scale it provides, as Six is quite tiny in comparison to her environment.

In an interview with Polygon, senior narrative designer of "Little Nightmares" Dave Mervik explained that they wanted to explore feelings of the surreal and alienation. The game was created in mind for players to explore the setting, instead of serving just as a background. Not much is explained what kind of place The Maw is like, but based on the grim visuals and misshapen creatures, it doesn't seem like a safe haven for Six. Mervik added that The Maw just shows up where it feels like and not much is known about it.

What makes "Little Nightmares" distinct from other horror platform games is that it uses a child's perspective. Andreas Johnson, one of the co-founders of Tarsier, explains that they want to show how a child would experience and interpret these things in a very loud way, Ars Technica reported.

"Little Nightmares" will be released on the Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Windows PC on April 28. Watch a preview of the gameplay here:
