"Homeland" Season 6 is now all set to return in Showtime. The series' fifth installment ended with a major cliffhanger and one of the biggest mysteries fans are waiting to be solved is the fate of Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend).

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Rupert Friend has revealed he thought Peter Quinn is so not coming back any longer. He added that showrunner Alex Gansa has been considering to ax that fan-favorite character.

Even Gansa has admitted to EW that he thought Friend's character will not survive the gas chamber that would lead to his death. However, he said things started to change when they were able to find a more fascinating way to end things.

"We began filling in the blanks, and there was a need for a character for Quinn to interact with while he's captured by the bad guys," Gansa told EW. The "Homeland" Season 6 showrunner added that they think saving Peter Quinn's life will lead to a more interesting storyline.

Most fans can recall how Quinn got brutally injured in Season 5 that many have thought it is very impossible for him to survive. Fortunately, the character of Rupert Friend has already been confirmed to make his presence in the first episode of "Homeland" Season 6 titled as "Fair Game."

"Homeland is doing something I don't think any TV show has done before, where you have a character in season 6 and he's basically unrecognizable from the previous seasons," Friend has revealed when asked on what fans should expect to happen in "Homeland" Season 6. "Some will say, 'But where's my old friend?' But that's not the way the world works," he went on.

Meanwhile, the guest stars in the upcoming "Homeland" Season 6, which include "House of Cards" actress Elizabeth Marvel and "The Flash" actor Patrick Sabongui. Other personalities expected to grace the series are "Prison Break" star Robert Knepper and actor Jake Weber, Screen Crush shared.

The Showtime series has already been renewed for Seasons 7 and 8. "Homeland" Season 6's first episode is set to premiere on Sunday, January 15, 9 P.M. at Showtime.
