Hulu and Disney have recently signed on a new pact which gives the streaming service exclusive subscription streaming rights to some of Disney's all time, classic hits.
According to Variety, Hulu has acquired all rights to stream 56 movies from Disney, making the deal the company's biggest move to date when it comes to movies. The site reports that the streaming giant has already started adding "Pocahontas," "Mulan" and other Disney classics to its library this week. It is expected that subscribers will also get to stream new additions such as "Con Air," "Lilo & Stitch" and "Princess and the Frog."
Financial terms of Hulu and Disney's new licensing deal were not disclosed.
The company's biggest rival, Netflix, also struck a huge deal with Disney earlier this year. The multi-year pact gave Netflix exclusive rights to stream all of the studio's new releases beginning in September 2016 and beyond. The deal gives Netflix subscribers exclusive access to some of Disney's box office hits this year including Marvel's "Dr. Strange," Pixar's "Finding Nemo" and Lucasfilm's "Rogue One."
It's no question that Netflix has changed the game in the way people consume entertainment. Just for this year alone, it has been reported that the company has allotted a whopping budget of $6 billion to produce their own original content.
Hulu, for its part, is also stepping up by focusing on delivering original scripted shows. This year, the streaming network released two new dramas: "The Path" which stars Aaron Paul and Hugh Dancy and "11.22.63" headlined by James Franco.
Other popular US TV shows that are streaming on Hulu right now are "The Mindy Project," "Nashville," "This Is Us," "Empire," "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "Law & Order SVU," and "Seinfeld." On the channel's animated series slate, "South Park," "Family Guy," "Adventure Time" and "Spongebob SquarePants" are also currently being offered to subscribers.
