"The Fifth Wave" actress Chloe Grace Moretz and "American Honey" breakout star Sasha Lane is in talks to star in gay conversion indie drama "The Miseducation of Cameron Post." "Appropriate Behavior" writer-director-actress Desiree Akhavan is directing it.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Moretz will play as an orphan Cameron who is taken in by her ultra-conservative aunt in "The Miseducation of Cameron Post." Lane will play Cameron's friend and fellow 'disciple' at the conversion therapy clinic to which they are sent.

"The Miseducation of Cameron Post" is penned from a script Akhavan co-wrote with Cecilia Frugiuele, Variety reported. It is based on Emily Danforth's acclaimed and controversial coming-of-age novel of the same name. It is set in 1993 and centered on a girl forced into a gay conversion therapy center after getting caught with the prom queen.

"The Miseducation of Cameron Post" is dubbed a drama with comedic elements. "Tramps" Ashley Connor is also on board as cinematographer. UTA is repping domestic rights.

"The Miseducation of Cameron Post" will be produced by Beachside and Parkville Pictures, with Beachside fully financing. It will be executive produced by Olivier Kaempfer and Akhavan. The production team includes "Morris From America" Michael B. Clark, "Tig" Alex Turtletaub, and "Little Men" Jonathan Montepare alongside Cecilia Frugiuele from "Appropriate Behavior", who also adapted the screenplay with Akhavan.

Akhavan is no stranger to hot-button fare, having written, directed, and starred in the Sundance darling "Appropriate Behavior," which centered on young Persian bisexual woman living in Brooklyn. She was nominated for best first screenplay at the 2015 Indie Spirit Awards for the said film.

Akhavan is also the co-creator and star of the critically acclaimed web series "The Slope." She has a leading role in "Creep 2," currently in post-production and is at work on Channel 4's untitled comedy series Season 1 in the U.K.
