The remake of the long-running American television series "Gilmore Girls" that charmed its way into international viewers' hearts over a decade ago, may soon air on Netflix. A cryptic Instagram post by "Gilmore Girls" alum Keiko Agena showing a snap of herself with the TV series producer Helen Pai, a bosom buddy of show creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, sent fans into a frenzy.

Fans' reactions ranged from excited and melodramatic to incredulous. "It's a wish come true," one of Agena's Instagram followers commented. Another noted that the lead stars are all old now, while several fans wondered out loud if the show revival was truly happening.

Agena tackled the role of Lane Kim, a Korean-American teenager, the friend whom the show's star, Rory Gilmore, always consulted and shared teen angsts with. The Japanese-American also had an Asian-American tiger mom in the show, whom she related to with casual deference.

The buzz about a possible revival of "Gilmore Girls" began in October 2015, when deal negotiations between Netflix and Warner Bros. Television were uncovered. Netflix sealed a deal with Warner Bros. for a limited-series show written by the "Gilmore Girls" creator along with executive producer Daniel Palladino, TV Line reported.

There have been talks with the lead stars Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham, who plays single mother to Rory, as well as Scott Patterson and Kelly Bishop, who play Lorelei Gilmore's love interest and mother, respectively.

Bledel, who plays the fresh-faced teenage Rory, went on to appear in movies, such as "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" and its sequel. She also had a recurring role in the show "Mad Men."

Also spicing up the show were eccentric characters like Sookie St. James, played by Melissa McCarthy. However, the "Bridesmaids" and "Ghostbusters" actress may not return to share the small screen with the original cast of the "Gilmore Girls."

"Gilmore Girls" exhibited strong showing for the streaming service, The Hollywood Reporter reported. If plans push through, the reboot will consist of four 90-minute episodes.

There have been chatter about the construction of sets for the series revival . Amidst all these, Netflix is biding its time in making an official announcement.

Years back, fans fell in love with the family-oriented concept, fast-paced dialogue and endearing characters of "Gilmore Girls" but the show took a bow in May 2007.

Even after it stopped airing, "Gilmore Girls" continued to be enjoyed by fans representing different generations, who watched it on Netflix or purchased DVD copies of the show.
