CL has finally spoken up after drawing backlash for performing the Quran version of her solo track "MTBD" during her "Hello Bi+ches" concert in Los Angeles.
"MTBD" has previously dragged the 2ne1 member to controversy due to its background music that seemingly sounds like a reading of Muslim's Quran. Many Muslim fans thought the version is offensive, considering that Quran is the central religious text of Islam.
As a result, the Korea Muslim Federation reportedly submitted a complaint, forcing YG Entertainment to delete the controversial part of the song, Allkpop reported. However, the controversial version of "MTBD" was surprisingly included in CL's set list for her Los Angeles concert causing yet another outrage.
Following the CL's performance of "MTBD" in Los Angeles, some Muslim netizens have started the hashtag "cl_stop_using_our_quran" to call out the artist for the offensive act.
Meanwhile, CL took to her Twitter account to address the issue and apologize for those she has offended. The 2ne1 member claimed the engineer had sent the Quran version of "MTBD" instead of the edited one, Billboard noted.
"To anyone I have offended I sincerely apologize for my mistake. What happened was my engineer sent the old version of "MTBD" for this tour. I take responsibility for not realizing this sooner. My intention was never to use this version," CL wrote.
She went on, "I have changed it back to the new version last night and told him to delete the old version completely and forever. Thank you always and big love to all the fans."
Before she could even release an official statement, the 2ne1 member seemingly corrected the wrong by performing the edited version of "MTBD" in her Dallas "Hello Bi+ches" concert.
