It will be the end of the line for Lumia devices as it will only be available until the end of 2016. Aside from ceasing its sales due to underperformance, Microsoft will totally eradicate the lineup and stop its production. Is it a sign that the acclaimed Surface Phone is on its way?
Recent reports emerge that Microsoft is going to eliminate all of its Lumia devices due to its poor sales. It is believed to be replaced with the new Surface phone. As a matter of fact, only four Lumia models are left struggling for sales and performance on the market. It is noticeable that there are no forthcoming models to the lineup and stores are giving huge discounts and promotions to clear away the phones. Even Microsoft deleted the link to purchase Lumias from its website in the US and changed their subsistence in other regions, Ars Technica reported.
Nevertheless, Microsoft is believed to be hosting an October event to announce a Surface all-in-one device and at the same time unveil the rumored Surface phone, but could be holding off for a 2017 event.
Even if Microsoft is truly eradicating the Lumia range, it doesn't mean that Windows 10 for Mobile is already killed. The tech company has two significant updates slated in 2017 and is enticing third-party producers to keep on manufacturing supporting devices. Microsoft's Director of Engineering at Windows Fundamentals Laura Butler has been connotative on Twitter that something is coming up, according to Digital Trends.
Microsoft Lumia was initially introduced in 2011 and is differentiated from other phones for possessing a neat and trouble-free user interface that deliver information without the necessity of opening the apps. The phone gradually has grown under Nokia and got a piece of the market share pie. However, after Microsoft acquired Nokia's phone division and the laying off of employees by the new CEO Satya Nadella, the brand seems to dwindle.
As of the moment, no new leaks or rumors have emerged for the Surface Phone aside from the previous reports that it will be launched next year together with Redstone 2 by next year of April.
