Developers for upcoming horror thriller game "Friday the 13th" have not been holding back with the game's violence in the latest trailer. The new trailer shown in PAX West 2016 was downright unsettlingly brutal. Those who are weak in the stomach for these kinds of things should take caution.
It is suggested that people should be warned when considering watching the video, according to Gamespot. The trailer contained a portion of the gameplay showcasing a montage of the infamous hockey-masked Jason Voorhees killing campers and camp counselors alike in a variety of brutal and gory executions. The violence includes eye gouging, spear and pitchfork impalement, skull crushing, dismemberment, face burning in the fireplace and a pick axe to the neck.
The horror game was a smaller title called "Slasher Vol. 1: Summer Camp" by developer Gun Media. It was until the actual rights-holders (which included Sean Cunningham as well) called up the game company and freely gave them the full rights to transform the game into a "Friday the 13th" title.
The game is on a multiplayer platform similar to games such as "Dead by Daylight" where one player plays the killer (Jason Voorhees), while the rest take the role of survivors (the campers). Just like most horror slasher movies, there will be some stereotyped roles for the campers such as the "jock" and "girl next door" types, to name a few. Although, how the game will play out it in detail is still yet unknown.
Other than the fact that it is based on the "classic" horror slasher film, the game really reflects on 80's culture. The Sixth Axis mentions that back then in those times, there was a term called a "video nasty" which pertains to a huge range of horror movies released. The media (tabloids) made a lot of issues with these types of movies such as "Friday the 13th," "Chainsaw Massacre" and a lot more similar films, causing some of them to be banned from premiering in public.
Although this might be tentative, the "Friday the 13th: The Game" is scheduled for release around Oct. 2016 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
