The "Attack on Titan" manga has recently reached a new milestone, having reached 60 million copies in print. That's 8 million more than last year's worldwide copies.
The announcement was made by Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine on Twitter on Sept. 1. It did not reveal if this number is for worldwide publication, but in October 2015, Hajime Isayama's manga passed the 52 million mark internationally, according to Anime News Network. In December 2013, it had 28 million copies in print, according to a report by the same publication.
"Attack on Titan" has so far been published in 20 compiled volumes, the latest of which was released in Japan last month. The English version of the 19th volume was also released in August.
The 12th volume of the "Attack on Titan" tankōbon had an initial print of around 2.2 million copies, while the 13th volume's first print was 2.75 million copies. The only other manga that got more than 2 million copies in initial print is "One Piece" by Eiichiro Oda.
Meanwhile, fans can expect the "Attack on Titan" Season 2 anime in spring of 2017. Some of the returning voice cast members are Yuuki Kaji as Eren, Yui Ishikawa as Mikasa, Marina Inoue as Armin, and Hiroshi Kamiya as Levi.
Season 1 was aired from April to September 2013, which inspired two anime films, "Attack on Titan - Part 1: Crimson Bow and Arrow" and "Attack on Titan - Part 2: Wings of Freedom," released in 2014 and 2015. A two-part live-action film was also released, plus spin-off manga, light novels, and video games.
The most recent video game is simply titled "Attack on Titan" but is called "A.O.T.: Wings of Freedom" in Europe. It was released in Japan in February and in North America and Europe late last month.
"Attack on Titan" focuses on a group of people living in a walled city, trying to survive under the threat of man-eating, gigantic beasts called Titans.
