"Supergirl" Season 2 will air starting this October, and fans can expect to see one of the earliest villains that Superman faced in the comic books: Metallo.

According to Entertainment Weekly, actor Frederick Schmidt, previously seen in films like "Starred Up" as Officer Gentry and "Snow in Paradise" as Dave, will portray the character John Corben in "Supergirl." Corben is an international assassin who faces both the Kryptonian superheroes, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and her cousin Superman (Tyler Hoechin). He gets badly hurt in the process and a mysterious organization treats him and subsequently turns him into the supervillain Metallo.

Metallo, created by Al Plastino and Robert Bernstein, was first seen in issue #252 of Action Comics, published in May 1959. There, he was portrayed as a journalist who moonlights as a murderer and thief. After a serious injury, his brain is transferred to a robot body that looks like a human's and gets a job at the Daily Planet.

The character later appeared in other iterations and he had been depicted either as a cyborg or someone wearing a special suit in which he utilizes Kryptonite for power. He is a formidable enemy, given that kryptonite is the one element that weakens Kryptonians.

On live-action television, Metallo was played by Michael Callan in "Superboy" Season 2, Scott Valentine in "Lois & Clark" Season 2, and Brian Austin Green in "Smallville" Season 9.  In "Supergirl" Season 2, he will be seen in at least two episodes.

"Supergirl" Season 2, according to Coming Soon, will see Kara trying to find out what she really wants to be and attempting to find the balance between her personal life and her life a superhero. She continues to be part of the DEO and will partner with her cousin Superman to fight supervillains together.

Apart from Schmidt, fans will also see Hoechlin as Superman, Lynda Carter as the President of the United States, Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor, Chris Wood as Mon-El, Sharon Leal as Miss Martian, Ian Gomez as Snapper Carr, and Floriana Lima as Maggie Sawyer.

"Supergirl" Season 2 will premiere on The CW on Monday, Oct. 10.
