Following the series finale of "Person of Interest," actress Sarah Shahi weighed-in on the show's future and whether or not a spinoff is something she sees developing later.

In a report from TV Insider, the actress admitted that she heard rumors about "Person of Interest" getting a follow-up story. While this is the case, the show's future remains in limbo as CBS nor any other network had not shown interest in developing a spinoff for the cancelled drama. It is still worth noting, though, that the writers opted to conclude the series with an open-ended finale, in case news of a pickup emerges.

"A couple of episodes before the finale, I kept hearing things about the spinoff," Shahi said.

"I think it would be hard to say the show could possibly reinvent itself somewhere else, because everyone else has taken other jobs, or we're free to take other jobs."

When Deadline interviewed "Person of Interest" co-showrunners Greg Plageman and Jonah Noah, they did not shut down the possibility either. Plageman believed that the premise of the show bears potential to be revisited, just like what FOX has done to "The X-Files" and "24." Dissecting the showrunner's statement, it can be speculated for now that there's still a glimmer of hope for the series to continue.

"I think the premise that Jonah came up with in terms of an artificial intelligence that takes in all this information, processes it and gives, you might say, a predictive output in some regard is so strong that there's no doubt that that could be revived in some sense," Plageman told the publication.

"I would say never say never in a world where we've seen the X-Files and 24 and a number of really strong premises come back as well."

The series finale of "Person of Interest" aired on Tuesday, June 21 on CBS.
