Amazon Studios announced last week that they will be working on a number of TV series for the already rebooted movie "The Departed" directed by Martin Scorsese in 2006. The movie itself is based on "Internal Affairs", a law-breaking movie under the direction of Alan Mak and Andrew Lau in 2002.
Just like its forerunners, "The Departed" TV series will focus on a police department attempting to knock down a group of criminals by enjoining a spy not knowing that the criminals did the same on their end. "Internal Affairs" was filmed in Hong Kong while "The Departed" movie was filmed in Boston. The TV series will take its production in the suburbs of Chicago, Digital Trends reported.
"The Department" was both crucially and lucratively successful which should not be a surprise because of its shining casts including Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Wahlberg, and Matt Damon. The project seems up-and-coming and Amazon just nailed it in a combative standpoint.
According to Engadget, Detroit 1-8-7's creator Jason Richman will produce and write the TV series. No creative roles are announced yet. Despite the belligerent drug groups, the production will still take place in Chicago. Production houses like Initial Entertainment Group, Plan B Entertainment, and Vertigo Entertainment will all collaborate to produce the show.
The story of "The Departed" revolves around two police who both spy from each other's group. Matt Damon plays the role of Colin Sullivan who was raised by the crime boss Francis Costello to take down rival Billy Costigan played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Costigan's true identity was only known to Staff Sergeant Dignam, played by Mark Wahlberg and Captain Queenan, played by Martin Sheen and was recruited to infiltrate the Irish mob.
Executive producer to the TV series Roy Lee foreshadowed the production to start in March. In addition, he mentioned that Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Wahlberg, and Matt Damon will not be included in the new project's roster.
