"Suicide Squad" joker Jared Leto joins the cast in the sequel of Alcon Entertainment's "Blade Runner 2." The untitled movie is expected to be released on Oct. 6, 2017 via Warner Bros. Sony will distribute it internationally.
According to BBC News, Leto will play a brand new character in the as-yet untitled film "Blade Runner 2." The details of his character are yet to be revealed. Producers are keeping quiet of the identity. The plot details of the sequel may remain unknown.
However, the full cast of "Blade Runner 2" sequel appears to be in place. Harrison Ford will re-enact the role as Rick Deckard, who is the ex-police officer. Ryan Gosling will reprise the role of Deckard. "Knock Knock" star Ana de Armas will play the leading role, which is still under wraps. "House of Cards" actress Robin Wright could play as a core member of the LAPD who employs the blade runners or a femme fatale replicant. "Guardians of the Galaxy" Drax Dave Bautista could be playing the role as a replicant or a replicant-hunting blade runner because of his physical prowess. Other cast members are Mackenzie Davis, Barkhad Abdi, Sylvia Hoeks, and Carla Juri.
Ridley Scott's 1982 classic "Blade Runner" was about Deckard hunting the escaped genetically engineered lifelike robots called replicants who returned to Earth illegally to extend their four-year lifespans in a futuristic Los Angeles. It was set in the year 2019. It was written by Fancher and David Peoples. It was based on the novel "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?" of Philip K. Dick. "Blade Runner 2" sequel is set several decades after the 1982 original. It is also expected to succeed the initial story. Hampton Fancher and Michael Green wrote the sequel's script.
Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is directing the "Blade Runner 2" sequel. He described the movie as an extension of the original. His credits include "Prisoners," "Enemy," and "Sicario." His next film will be the sci-fi "Arrival," starring Amy Adams, The Independent reported.
Cynthia Sikes Yorkin, Andrew A. Kosove, Broderick Johnson, and Bud Yorkin are the producers of "Blade Runner 2." Chief Executive Officers Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble of Thunderbird Films are the executive producers with Bill Carraro and Ridley Scott.
Leto won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his performance in 2013's Dallas Buyers Club. He also performs as a musician and singer in the rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars. He is recently spotted in his pajamas and slippers outside his Los Angeles home on Thursday.
