Jerome is getting resurrected on "Gotham." Although the character died in Season 2, the producers of the series have already locked-in their plans to bring him back in the future.
In a report from Zap2it, executive producer John Stephens has revealed that they are still developing a story which will tie up Jerome's return to the current events on "Gotham" Season 3. Subsequently, viewers will have to wait until next year before Cameron Monaghan reprises his role as the fan-favorite character. It should also be noted that Jerome's resurrection will only become a reality if FOX renews the Batman prequel for a fourth season.
"We're going to be playing it again this year and basically extending the idea of the cult of Jerome," Stephens told the publication.
"We're building the architecture for him to come back."
As to how "Gotham" will reintroduce the character, Stephens promises that it will be "fantastic," adding that Jerome will go through some kind of transformation. However, the showrunner did not mention if this different version of Jerome will appear with a bit of clown makeup. To longtime fans, this could be an indication that he will slowly embrace the Joker's legacy.
Actor Cameron Monaghan, for his part, has slightly dropped a hint about his return on "Gotham" - earlier this month on Twitter. When asked by a fan if he has watched "Suicide Squad," the actor's incomplete reply seems to allude that he is indeed, returning to the Fox series. The conversation immediately spurred speculations in the social media platform.

"Gotham" Season 3 premieres on Monday, Sept. 19 at 8PM on FOX.
