James Gunn is known to be one of Marvel Studios' most distinguished directors. In a recent interview, he reveals that DC comics has given him the opportunity to direct movies for the studio, but he decided to let it pass. He also hinted the possibility of "Guardians of the Galaxy" Volume 3 but expressed uncertainty if he would still be directing the film.

In a recent Q&A on Gunn's Facebook page, the director was asked which characters within the DC Extended Universe he would have worked on if given the opportunity. Surprisingly, he revealed that prior to joining Marvel Cinematic Studio, the latter did offer him a spot in the director's chair. He didn't say yes at that time and said that he wasn't sure if he would now.

But even though he passed on the offer to direct films for DC, Gunn said that there were projects that appealed to him. According to Collider, his first mention was Shazam and added that Metal Men, Swamp Think and Jonah Hex were his DC favorites.

Gunn said that he was happy making film for Marvel. His biggest hit was directing "Guardians of the Galaxy" back in 2014 which gave fans a preview of what the Marvel brand has to offer. He said that what made the film great wasn't due to the money it made, but how it made a big impact to its audience. People kept coming back for the movie and kept telling their friends about it.

Meanwhile, Slash Film reported that if Gunn was to continue making movies for Marvel he would stick with characters related to the Guardian-verse. However, though he confirms that "Guardians of the Galaxy" Volume 3 will be made, he expressed uncertainty if he would return to direct the film.
