The sequel to the 2013 film "Man of Steel" is said to be in the pipeline, so fans of the DC superhero who were afraid that it wasn't going to happen can raise their hopes up once more.

According to an exclusive report by The Wrap, Warner Bros. is currently developing "Man of Steel 2." A source close to the project reportedly told the publication that the solo Superman film is one of the movie studio's top priorities. Moreover, they are said to be putting a lot of importance to getting the character right.

It can be speculated that the care is due to the generally negative reviews that "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Suicide Squad" received. Still, according to Box Office Mojo, the former earned $872.7 million in the box office against a $250 million budget, and the latter, released only recently, has already earned $267 million against a $175 million budget.

The first "Man of Steel" movie, shown in 2013, received mixed reviews but it raked in $668 million in the box office against a $225 million budget.

It will be a long time before the superhero from Krypton flies solo, however.  In the DC Extended Universe, "Wonder Woman" is up next, to be shown in June 2017. "Justice League" follows shortly, in November next year.  If all works out, the next ones are "The Flash" (no date yet) and "Aquaman" (July 2018). There is an untitled film set for October 2018, "Shazam" is scheduled for April 2019, the second "Justice League" in June 2019, another untitled film in November 2019, "Cyborg" in April 2020, and "Green Lantern Corps" in July 2020.

"Man of Steel 2" and the solo "Batman" film might be fitted in those empty dates, but that's only guesswork.  What fans can expect if the project pushes through is that Henry Cavill is likely to reprise his role as Clark Kent aka Superman.  The superhero will first return in "Justice League," although it remains to be seen how he will be resurrected after his death in "BvS" - if he really did die.
