‘Zootopia’ Dominates Japanese Box Office

Disney is once again dominating the Japanese box office with the success of its animated feature Zootopia which landed on the number 2 spot despite being at the box office for 10 weeks. Disney's success did not end there as Deadpool has also crossed the $16 million mark in Japan.

Headlining the box office chart this weekend is locally produced film Too Young to Die! which earned $2.5 million during its weekend run from 188,000 admissions at 288 cinemas. The film tells the story of a high-school kid who died and went to hell without getting the chance to kiss his love interest. The film was written and directed by Kankuro Kudo.

Disney's Zootopia added $2 million to its revenue pushing the film's total take to $66.9 million and registering 5.57 million in admissions. The animated feature climbed to the second spot after a long and successful run.

Japanese film Botanical Books dropped down to the third spot following its fourth week at the box office.

The horror crossover film Sadako vs. Kayako is holding strong to the number four spot. The film garnered international attention with its unique brand of horror which stars two of Japan's most iconic horror characters, Sadako from The Ring and Kayako from The Grudge.

64, the second part of the local police drama, went down three notches and landed to the fifth spot on its third week in the box office. The first part of the series is holding the 10th spot following its eight weeks stay on the box office.

Deadpool drooped one notch and landed on the fifth place. However, the film's extended stay in the box office which helped push its revenue to $16.7 million, essentially outperforming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Next week, Warcraft and Alice Through the Looking Glass are expected to make their debut in Japan.
