Supergirl will introduce a female president in the show's forthcoming sophomore season. Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter has landed the role, and will appear on a recurring basis throughout the new season.

The actress will make her Supergirl debut in episode three of Season 2.

During Season 1, Supergirl co-executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg revealed their plans to cast Carter. But scheduling conflicts hindered the process.

"We had the perfect role for Lynda Carter, and we couldn't work out her schedule," Berlanti told reporters in March.

"We're going to do it, we'll just do it next year. She's the female president of the United States," Kreisberg added.

Playing POTUS on Supergirl is not Carter's first acting gig in the DC Universe. In the late 1970s, the actress played the titular role of Wonder Woman. She also made a guest appearance on the CW's Smallville in 2007.

Carter's casting comes after the announcement of Teen Wolf actor Tyler Hoechlin joining the DC series as Clark Kent aka Superman. The actor will make his debut in the first two episodes of the season.

Viewers are yet to find out whether Carter's POTUS and Hoechlin's Superman will share a scene in one of those episodes. Part of Superman's storyline will reportedly center on his visit to Kara in the National City.

Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, cousin of the popular DC hero Superman. The series is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, Ali Adler, and Sarah Schehter.

The supporting cast members of Supergirl include Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, and Calista Flockhart.

The second season of Supergirl has been moved to CW and will premiere on Monday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m.
