American-born Japanese singer Utada Hikaru is finally back in the music industry after a well-deserved six-year hiatus. Recently, Utada admitted that she regrets debuting at an early age in the industry.
In a bid to promote her comeback, Utada has set up a Q&A page, where fans can ask her any question they have in mind. According to Arama Japan, on Friday, June 17, a fan asked Utada how she felt about making her debut in 1998 at the age of 15.
Utada answered bluntly and truthfully explaining that "Sure I was happy that the product I worked so hard on was being accepted, but all of a sudden the freedom I had so taken for granted until that point was gone."
"That frustrating feeling of 'I can't go back now' was huge," she continued.
However, she noted that while she regrets debuting at a young age, she now feels grateful for all the experiences that she gained from starting early in the industry.
After several years of working, Utada announced in 2010 that she was pressing pause on her music career to focus on her personal life. She made good on that announcement and in 2014 after she married a bartender she met in Italy. In 2015, gave birth to a baby boy.
Although Utada's representatives have been tight-lipped about her comeback, there have been rumors since the beginning of the year that she was planning to release new music.
According to Pop Crush, a post on Utada's official website and a Tweet in January confirmed that she is already almost done with a song for a Japanese drama called とと姉ちゃん (Toto Nee-chan). The song was Utada's first song since 2012's Sakura Nagashi.
After creating a theme song, fans now cling to hopes that Utada will release a new studio album.
