Japanese trio Babymetal made headlines recently by posing for pictures with Norwegian metal legend Abbath. The band also announced that they would be performing with Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford at the AP Music Awards in the US next month.

While at the Fortarock Festival in the Netherlands, Babymetal posted two photos on Facebook taken with Abbath and his bandmates. The caption of one photo described the encounter as "a fateful meeting."

The former Immortal front man joins a long list of metal icons who the "kawaii metal" exports have met. Members of iconic bands such Metallica, Deftones, and Limp Bizkit have also appeared in photos with the three young members of Babymetal.

Opeth frontman Mikael Akerfeldt is a big fan of the band. "I love Babymetal," he said. "I think it's a great influx for metal. It shakes everything around."

Akerfeldt also appreciated the fact that he was able to get his daughter to trade in her Justin Bieber and One Direction for Babymetal.

Babymetal is slated to perform with Rob Halford at the AP Music Awards in Columbus, Ohio on July 18.

Suzuka "Sumetal" Nakamoto is the oldest member of Babymetal at 18 years old. She voiced the band's excitement about playing with the Judas Priest singer.

"Honestly, I am still at a loss of what I feel," she said. "But to be able to perform together with the Metal God, I am in disbelief."

Halford said he is ready to "head bang along with them for this special appearance."

Next weekend Babymetal will take the stage at the UK's Download Festival to open for Rammstein and Korn.
