Netflix is in a bit of a bind right now as a hacker claimed to have obtained a copy of the upcoming "Orange is the new Black" and promises to release it if the streaming giant doesn't pay up. But aside from Netflix, the hacker has also hinted additional series from other networks.
Hack Confirmed by Netflix
"Orange is the new Black" is one of Netflix's biggest property and it's currently in jeopardy as a hacker recently claimed to have the entire season and has promised to release it if no payment is made. According to Uproxx, the hacker did not attack the streaming network directly but was able to compromise the security of a "production vendor" which ultimately led to an illegal copy of the popular series.
Netflix has confirmed the hack and it's currently working with the FBI to deal with the breach. The hacker, who goes by the name The Dark Overlord, was not able to get any sort of deal with the streaming behemoth and has recently released the first episode in various websites.
While the streaming giant ignored the hacker's threats, spoiling the series premiere could still do some damage. A brand new season often means additional subscribers and Netflix could see significant drop of this continues.
More Networks Compromised
But the band news is not only limited to the Netflix. The "production vendor" is not only working with the media streaming company since it's also working with other studios. According to Variety, the hacker's twitter account has also named other networks such as Fox, IFC and even National Geographic.
As of this writing, the hacker did not release additional series set for release this year. But with the FBI involved, something is about to come up sooner or later. Netflix and the other affected networks will most likely not let this one pass.
