The New York Knicks is reported to have interest in the point guard Jrue Holiday who will become a free agent after the end of the season. However, this may be the difficult task to get him in New York as the Pelicans still need him.

The Knicks has waived Brandon Jennings to get younger point guard Chasson Randle from the NBA Development League on Monday, Feb. 27. However, its main point guard Derrick Rose will enter free agency in July, CBS Sports reported. Therefore Knicks will need a brilliant point guard like Holiday into the team.

According to ESPN, Knicks has targeted the New Orleans Pelicans as he will enter the free agency in the off-season. This interest has been noticed earlier, when Phil Jackson was appointed as the Knicks president in 2014. Jackson had tried to get Holiday in the New York at that time, however he was unsuccessful and he had to be satisfied with Derrick Rose.

New York Knicks is currently ranked at the 12th position in Eastern Conference with 24-36 record. The team may miss another playoff season and have lost 3 of their last 10 games. Coach Jeff Hornacek was having trouble to build the team’s defense that has been the biggest problem.

Holiday is the seven-year-veteran in the league since he was drafted in by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2009 NBA Draft. He was selected as the 17th overall picks by the Sixers and soon became the starter for the Sixers. He played for four seasons with the Sixers before the team traded him to New Orleans in summer after the 2012-13 season in exchange for Nerlens Noel.

He has improved his scoring and ball distribution statistics in the Pelicans than in the Sixers. He averages 15.3 points and 6.9 assists in his three seasons with the Pelicans. This season, he plays better, averaging 14.3 points and 7.4 assists in 45 games and is needed to distribute the ball with the arrival of DeMarcus Cousins and Omri Casspi.
