"American Horror Story" Season 7 is taking on a rather unusual theme. Creator/showrunner Ryan Murphy has revealed that the new installment of the FX anthology series will tackle the events that happened on last year's US presidential election.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy revealed the details of "American Horror Story" Season 7 during his appearance last Wednesday on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.

While promoting his other project Feud, Murphy said: "The next season is going to be about the election that we just went through, so I think that will be interesting for a lot of people." As to whether a character from Season 7 will be based on US President Donald Trump, Murphy replied coyly with a "maybe."

Murphy's decision to reveal the theme of "American Horror Story" Season 7 this early is a little bit surprising. Last year, the showrunner kept fans in the dark about the details surrounding Season 6's Roanoke. With the horror-anthology series' huge fan base, the new season's political theme can surely stir up some fun theories in the coming months.

In addition to Season 7's theme, Murphy also revealed that production will begin in June. No word yet on the exact filming location where the new episodes will be shot.

Entertainment Weekly reported last month that Murphy announced at the Television Critics Association press tour that original cast members Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will be joining "American Horror Story" Season 7. As usual, details on their character descriptions are still under wraps, but with Murphy's latest revelation it's likely that the duo is set to play characters in the political arena such as a campaign manager or someone with a high level of political influence.

FX has renewed "American Horror Story" until 2019. The upcoming seventh season is slated to premiere sometime this fall.
