American Crime Story's upcoming season about famous designer Gianni Versace has now found its lead actors.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Darren Criss (Glee/Supergirl) and Edgar Ramirez (The Girl on the Train) will play the key characters on "Versace: American Crime Story." The new installment, which will come after season 2's Katrina, will delve on the assassination of Versace in 1997. Ramirez will play the slayed designer and Criss will play his killer, Andrew Cunanan.
The upcoming Versace-themed season will be based on the book, "Vulgar Favors" authored by Vanity Fair writer Maureen Orth with production set to begin in March. A premiere date has not been set, but reports are saying that it's likely to debut sometime in 2018. It will run for a total of ten episodes on FX.
Criss is known for his role on FOX's hit musical series, "Glee." He recently landed a villainous role on the CW's "Supergirl" as the Music Meister where he will be featured in the musical crossover alongside Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist. As for Ramirez, his recent credits include Joy, Point Break and Carlos.
"American Crime Story" Season 2, meanwhile, focuses on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show has recently added Annette Bening to its cast as the governor of Louisiana during and after Katrina. Bening joins returning cast members Courtney B. Vance, Sarah Paulson and Cuba Gooding Jr.
"American Crime Story" is one of Ryan Murphy's most successful projects. The show's first season, The People v. OJ Simpson, has received positive reviews from critics - while also earning multiple nominations and awards for its actors such as Sarah Paulson and Sterling K. Brown.
After Katrina and Versace, "American Crime Story" will move forward to explore the scandal of Monica Lewinsky in season 4.
