Five-member girl group SPICA has officially disbanded five years after their debut. The group, dubbed as Lee Hyori's little sister group, was best known for their songs "Russian Roulette" and "Tonight."

The group's management agencies, CJ E&M and B2M Entertainment, confirmed the disbandment rumors on Feb. 7, Monday. It was also revealed that the members are discussing their plans for their future as their contracts near its expiration, Korea JoongAng Daily reported.

"The SPICA members are currently discussing whether or not they will go to different companies, or, though it is unlikely, they are also considering moving to another company as a whole group," as source said, as quoted by Soompi.

Despite their impressive vocal chops, admirable visuals and sexy style, SPICA was unable to break into the mainstream market. For most of their promotions, SPICA was not able to gain as much popularity as the members hoped.

"We're aware that we're a group with low mainstream recognition," member Yang Ji Won said in a past interview. "To be honest, we were exhausted due to low popularity. Since we aren't young, either, it was hard to keep telling ourselves that everything would work out."

Despite struggling to gain vast recognition in South Korea, SPICA made their debut in the American music industry in 2014 when they released the English-language track "I Did It."

SPICA debuted in 2012 with members Yang Ji Won, Kim BoA, Kim Bo Hyung, Park Si Hyun and Park Na Rae. Shortly after their debut, they appeared in a reality program with Lee Hyori, who mentored the girls in performing, fashion and the ins and outs of the K-Pop industry.

Many expressed sadness over the news of SPICA's disbandment. Following 2NE1's break up last year, veteran group Wonder Girls also split this year as well as younger groups I.O.I and M.I.B.
