Bebe Rexha is no doubt one of the upcoming biggest stars today, but she didn't start out that way. She recalled how she handed over one of the best songs she penned to Eminem and Rihanna because it wouldn't work if it was her singing it.
The 27-year-old music artist said she didn't have a choice back then but to let Rihanna sing for "The Monster," which she wrote, The Record reported. In 2010, she wrote the song, but back then, she didn't have money and no record deals. She said she performed her song to record deals, but most of them discouraged her, with one of them telling her that it sounded like a flop.
She said that at that time she had no choice but to let Rihanna use the song with Eminem rapping, The Sun reported. She also said that she never talked to Eminem even once. She said that its how the music industry works, but she didn't regret it because that move opened up a lot of opportunities for her.
She said she has tremendous respect for Eminem and Rihanna, and knew that the track would be a bigger success with those great musicians singing it. At first she wanted her voice to still be in the single, because as a young artist she still had a feeling of selfishness, especially towards her own art.
She said that when she penned the song she was still 20-years-old, and that young people have tendencies to be selfish. But now she realized that the song opened up a lot of doors for her. She also said that it would be a great honor for her to work with Eminem and Rihanna.
She said she looks up to Eminem and Rihanna for being real in their music, which is a big thing considering that they are in the popular music genre. She said that she has been in the music industry for 10 years but people still consider her as new in the picture.
She is also happy that people who come to her shows know her story of being a songwriter at first.
