Another comic book based TV series is coming to FOX. The network on Monday has handed out a pilot order of an "X-men" themed, Marvel action-adventure drama from "Burn Notice" creator, Matt Nix.
According to a report from Deadline, the untitled project will center on two ordinary parents who discover that their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive. Marvel boss Jeph Loeb is attached as executive producer alongside Nix.
Bryan Singer, who has helmed multiple films for the "X-Men" franchise, will direct the pilot.
The project in development will mark as FOX's third TV series based on the comic book genre. Currently, the network is still airing "Gotham" and "Lucifer" from DC. It is also producing FX network's "Legion," which is also based on the characters from the "X-Men" universe.
Nix, who's a huge "X-Men" fan, spoke with reporters earlier this month at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour to talk about how his upcoming live-action drama will be different from Legion. The creator said that unlike the latter, his show will be connected to the "X-Men" universe.
"A fan of the movies but also the comics would not be disoriented at all as to where this fits in the mythology," he said.
"If you look at the movies, which take place from - they started in 2003 to now - they don't all line up perfectly. I'm not slavishly fitting them into a particular slot. But at the same time, if you like the world of the movies, there are definite nods to the movies. It exists in the same general universe."
