The "Utawarerumono" series by Aquaplus is one of the best-selling visual novels in Japan and Atlus, a subsidiary of Sega, confirms they will bring the localized version of two games from the series, "Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception" and "Mask of Truth" for PS4 and PS Vita in North America and Europe.

But the publisher announced that they had to alter one of the scenes in "Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception," for depicting physical punishment to a minor in compliance with regional regulations. The game has been rated as M by ESRB due to violence and sexual themes, but it seems the scene where one of the younger characters gets physically disciplined by spanking has to be altered, as per Dualshockers. Atlus assured the fans that they've closely worked with Aquaplus to make sure the edits were minimally done and the original meaning of the game is still expressed.

"Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception" is a tactical visual novel game with RPG battle system, according to Kotaku. Players take up the role of Haku, an amnesiac who wakes up in a new, strange world populated with people with animal ears and tails. He gets rescued by Kuon and they team up together to navigate the nation of Yamato. The world of "Utawarerumono" apparently takes place in the Earth's far future, despite looking like a fantasy setting with magical creatures and animal hybrids.

The series is well-received in Japan when the first game was released in 2002, and various spin-offs and adaptations including manga and anime were made. Western fans might be more familiar with the anime, which might give a better reception for the game's localized version when it gets released this year. "Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception" will be released first, followed by "Mask of Truth". Both games are 40 - 50+ hours long, so there is plenty of content for players to look forward to.
