After a long period of waiting, it appears that "True Detective" fans have reason to rejoice as Season 3 developments are in the works. There are rumblings that suggest that plans for "True Detective" Season 3 are being revived.

The disastrous second season run of "True Detective" may have caused HBO to think twice about its plans to move forward with "True Detective" Season 3. The first season of the show was a critical darling and even won in several categories at the 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards.

"True Detective" Season 2 was the exact opposite and did not live up to the expectations built up during the show's first run. Despite having Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn in starring roles, it was not enough to generate the same traction as its predecessor.

On a brighter note, Variety now reports that "True Detective" Season 3 is still pretty much alive, but it's going to take some time before it hits television screens. "I don't have anything on paper yet but I know there are some ideas going back and forth," HBO programming president Casey Bloys said. "I don't want to rush it. I don't want to do anything just to get it on the air."

Perhaps, allowing "True Detective" Season 3 time to build itself up would be the perfect move to renew interest in the series. After all, the show's first season was a long-gestating project by Nic Pizzolatto. The latter was rushed to make sure it would be available in time for HBO's summer 2015 programming.

Pizzolatto's involvement in "True Detective" Season 3 remains unclear. Speaking to Vulture Bloys said that he's open to the possibility of having a team of writers work on the third season under Pizzolatto's supervision. Director Cary Fukunga, who helmed seasons 1 and 2, might not return to direct the third outing.
