"This Is Us," last fall's breakout TV series, just locked in its future for two more years. NBC has officially renewed the show starring Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia for a second and third season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the early pickup announcement was made at the Television Critics Association (TCA) winter press tour on Wednesday. The news comes after the show's latest outing which served as a prequel episode to the pilot.
"This Is Us is as good as anything we've ever had, we're thrilled to renew it for two seasons and there's no doubt it will have a long life on NBC," said NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke in a statement.
"On behalf of everyone at NBC, we're grateful for the artistry of the cast, crew, and producers assembled by our gifted creator, Dan Fogelman."
The renewal of "This Is Us" is no longer as a surprise as the series has been one of the highly-received shows that premiered last year alongside HBO's "Westworld" and "Game of Thrones." It also received a nomination at the Golden Globes for Best Drama Television Series.
On ratings, the show continues to deliver top numbers for the network. Per TV Line, the pilot episode was watched by 10.1 million total viewers and a 2.8 rating. Currently, it is averaging 9.6 million viewers and a 2.6 rating every week on its Tuesday night timeslot on NBC.
An all new episode of "This Is Us" titled "Three Sentences" will air next Tuesday (Jan. 24) on NBC. The episode will find Jack and Rebecca get in over their heads when they decide to throw Kate, Kevin and Randall three separate parties for their 10th birthday.
"This Is Us" hails from executive producer Dan Fogelman. It also stars Justin Hartley, Chrissy Metz, Chris Sullivan, Sterling K. Brown, Ron Cephas Jones, and Susan Kelechi Watson.
