"Star Trek: Discovery" has been bumped to premiere on a later date. Meanwhile, the producers has cast Spock's father to join the scifi series.

Following a few road bumps in pre-production, "Star Trek Discovery" is now ready to take off. But not without a new set of production setbacks. According to Variety, CBS has announced that there will be a delay on the official launch date of the highly-anticipated scifi series. The show was originally set to shoot beginning on November of last year but has been rescheduled this month.

"Production on Star Trek: Discovery begins next week," the broadcast network said in a statement.

"We love the cast, the scripts and are excited about the world the producers have created. This is an ambitious project; we will be flexible on a launch date if it's best for the show. We've said from the beginning it's more important to do this right than to do it fast. There is also added flexibility presenting on CBS All Access, which isn't beholden to seasonal premieres or launch windows."

Last year, Bryan Fuller stepped down as Discovery's showrunner. Fuller confirmed that he is no longer involved with the project. During this period, the show was able to cast its first character, a trio of Klingons and finally, its non-white female lead. The actors now confirmed to board the project are Michelle Yeoh, Anthony Rapp, Doug Jones, Chris Obi, Shazad Latif, and Mary Chieffo.

"The Walking Dead" actress Sonequa Martin-Green will play the lead role.

In addition to the delay, it was also announced that Spock's father has now been cast. The character, Sarek, will be played by "Gotham" and "The Tudors" actor James Frain.

"Star Trek Discovery" will premiere sometime this year on CBS. Subsequent episodes will be made available for streaming exclusively on CBS All Access.
