Victor Aldertree does not exactly fit the villain description, although "Shadowhunters" Season 2 cast Dominic Sherwood says otherwise. Meanwhile, Katherine McNamara says that the Shadowhunters have yet to see through his disguise.
McNamara is not sure yet what to call Aldertree, although she suspects that he could be a villain in disguise. The singer and actress, who plays Clary Fray in the "Shadowhunters" Season 2, says that the Shadowhunters have yet to see through Aldertree's guise and motives.
"We don't know whether he's somebody who's going to help us get to Jace, or if he's somebody who's going to be an obstacle to that," McNamara tells Screener TV.
Sherwood on the other hand, believes that the representative for The Clave is a secret baddie. The actor credits this assumption to the show's villain stereotype. He says that the series usually casts British actors to be the bad guys and Nick Sagar, who plays Aldertree, happens to be one.
Regardless, Sherwood also thinks that the newcomer is not a villain. He says that perhaps Aldertree is just a loyal Shadowhunter. He may just be following The Clave's orders.
"He could quite happily just be following The Clave's rules in the same way that Maryse did, and we've seen Maryse do throughout," Sherwood tells the publication, in the same interview with McNamara.
So far, the past episodes in the "Shadowhunters" Season 2 hint that Aldertree could be the new "Big Bad" in the series. His actions point to him being the villain. After all, he placed The Institute on lockdown and called a manhunt for Jace Wayland.
Likewise, Aldertree functions based on personal vendettas, according to Movie Pilot. He even blames Lydia for the failures at The Institute, although he is supposed to be in charge. Somehow, Aldertree's behavior mimic those of the bad guys in the "Shadowhunters" Season 2.
