The Nintendo Switch is currently enjoying a lot of hype and popularity right now, especially as preorders on Gamestop, Amazon, Target, Toys R Us, Walmart and Best Buy have already sold out three days after it opened. Now, however, tech reports are concerning themselves with whether the Nintendo Switch is indeed a revolutionary piece of tech, and if it will be able to displace the more popular consoles such as the 3DS and the Wii U.

For tech enthusiasts who are still thinking about getting their hands on a Nintendo Switch, is it worth the buck? Here's everything you need to know about the Nintendo Switch, including specifications, features, available games and more.

What does the Nintendo Switch purport to do

What the Nintendo Switch offers to do is quite intriguing. It's described as a hybrid system that can either be plugged into the TV, or it can be slid out of the dock and played on the go, according to The Guardian.

The hybrid new tech has been raved by several tech reviews for its "revolutionary" way of crossing the portable and home experience in one handy gadget. In fact, evidence of its hype showed when it sold out three days after preorders opened, and is now virtually difficult to obtain in the United States, according to Polygon.

Will it replace the Wii U and 3DS?

As video gamers worldwide predicted that the Nintendo Switch will replace the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, no less than Nintendo America president Reggie Fils-Aime said it won't oust its predecessors. In fact, the studio continues to release new and updated titles on the 3DS console, according to CNET. Another report from Fortune also said the new Nintendo Switch won't displace the Wii U as well, as most users thought its ability to transform from a home console to a portable system was appealing but not world-changing, Fortune reported.

So far, Nintendo has only announced 5 working titles for the Nintendo Switch, the same publication reported. Players will still have to wait another month before "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" becomes available. Nintendo is purposefully keeping the numbers low after discovering that releasing a high volume of launch titles did not do its previous consoles any favors, either.
