Android co-founder Andy Rubin is reported to work on the high-end bezelless modular smartphone

Android co-founder Andy Rubin is reported to return to the smarphone industry. He is currently working on the new bezel-less smartphone which is part or the the bigger ecosystem of artificial intelligence platform.

According to Bloomberg, Rubin is reported to plan to work on one risky business to create a consumer hardware. He has assembled his team, consist of 40 people which he recruits from Apple Inc. and Alphabet Inc.'s Google.

The Android creator will officially announce his new company in which he become the CEO in the near future. He registered the company Essential Products Inc. with California regulators in November 2015. He also has registered "Essential" with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to list as smartphones, tablets, accessories and "computer operating software for mobile phones."

According to The Information, Rubin recruited his team through his tech incubator Playground Global which he founded in 2015 after his departure from Google in October 2014. The incubator was initiated to provide resources, mentoring and funding for startups company that makes hardware. Playground Global offers support in engineering, distribution, manufacturing and financing in exchange for equity.

Rubin and his partners Peter Barrett, Matt Hershenson and Bruce Leak, has raised an investment fund of $300 million for the tech incubator. The investment were obtained from limited partnership with Google, HP, Foxconn, Redpoint Ventures, Seagate Technology, Tencent and other hardware manufacturers.

Essential will work to create a bezel-less smartphone which will become part of an artificial intelligence ecosystem. He is convinced that AI is the next big change in the information technology which will allow human to teach the machine to learn. It is not yet announced whether the smartphone will run on Android or other operating system.
