"American Horror Story" is off to a great start in 2017. The horror anthology series, created and executive produced by Ryan Murphy, is now officially renewed for seasons 8 and 9. The move will put the franchise among the shows that are safe from the cancellation block through 2019.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the announcement was made by FX execs at the Television Critics Association (TCA) winter press tour on Thursday. The news comes only months after the cable network has granted the show an early season 7 pickup.

Addressing whether or not details on the new installment will also be kept under wraps, FX CEO John Landgraf told reporters that it will be "shrouded in super secrecy." Fans will remember that Season 6's Roanoke-themed installment has been purposely marketed to mislead fans. Going into the new season, it sounds like Murphy and his team will also go down the same path.

Landgraf continued, offering more details about the trio of new seasons coming up: "We know explicitly what next season is about, which is seven, but we don't know what the eighth and ninth seasons are about. We're extending it out of trust and goodwill but also, Ryan made a commitment that he would continue to run that show and that he would be involved as he has been in the past with... designing and building the show from the ground up. So I honestly couldn't tell you what seasons 8 or 9 [could] be, but I can only tell you that I'm really excited about season 7 and I'm utterly confident that seasons 8 and 9 will be equally original and interesting."

In addition to the renewal, it was also confirmed by Murphy (via Entertainment Weekly) that original cast members Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters are returning on "American Horror Story" Season 7. As for plot details, the uber-producer teased that it will take place on a "modern day" setting.

Murphy told the panel that he still doesn't know if they will stay mum about other details surrounding the new installment. Further, he shared that he just began writing the script. That being said, it's still possible that fans will hear a few teasers as Murphy and his team progresses in the coming months.

"American Horror Story" Season 7 premieres this fall on FX.
