The future of "Scream Queens" is looking dull. Following the show's second season finale, not much developments have emerged about the Ryan Murphy-produced horror comedy series.
While this is the case, it seems that there's still hope for the Chanels. Variety reported that the executives at FOX recently addressed the future of "Scream Queens" at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour and whether or not the show still has a shot at renewal for a new season.
"It's very much still in consideration for a renewal," FOX boss David Madden said.
"The ratings don't tell the whole story; because it's such a young audience, you can't really even see the full picture even in L+3."
Adds Gary Newman: "Like 'Pitch' and 'The Exorcist,' we're not going to make any decisions until later this year. Obviously, we would have loved to have seen it do bigger numbers. The delayed viewing is there. It reaches a hard-to-reach younger audience, which we like, but we're just going to have to see what our needs are when we get closer to May."
To recap, the second season finale of "Scream Queens" saw the gang's final confrontation with Nurse Hoffel, who took the lives of Cassidy and his mother. The final moments of the finale featured a time jump, giving fans hope that there is more to come.
Chanel #5 and Zayday are now the hospital's top dogs, Hester and Brock successfully stole Dean Munsch's money and have ran away to Blood Island, Munsch moved to Aspen as a sexpert, and Chanel #1 is now a host of her own talk show "Lovin' the C", with #3 as her producer.
But the episode did not completely end without a twist, as the final moments revealed that another Red Devil is still out there.
At this point, fans of "Scream Queens" should just keep their fingers crossed. Broadcast networks like FOX usually do their renewal and cancellation announcements by May.
In case "Scream Queens" get the axe, it won't mean that the show is officially dead. There's still a possibility that another network or digital channel like Netflix or Hulu may show interest in resurrecting the series. "The Mindy Project" faced the same fate when it got cancelled after four seasons, then later was picked up by Hulu for season 5.
