The storyline will take an interesting twist when the team discovers that Rip has no memories of his past due to "time drift" and is just a graduate film student. When they finally convince Rip about his identity, they'll discover that he possesses an incredibly powerful artifact known as the Spear of Destiny, which the Legion of Doom is after.

The episode will also feature the appearance of a young George Lucas, a character which will be played by Grimm actor Matt Angel. As to how the prolific director will figure into the storyline, executive producer Marc Guggenheim previewed (via Entertainment Weekly) that the time aberration will cause Lucas to quit film school.

"As a result, he never makes Star Wars or Raiders of the Lost Ark. As a result, Ray, who became an engineer because of Star Wars, and Nate, who became a historian because of Raiders, slowly start to lose their brilliance, because those things that inspired them to become who they are didn't exist," Guggenheim explained.

The Jan. 24th installment will also find Ray (Bradon Routh) and Nate (Nick Zano) realize that the Aberration has also affected them personally making it difficult to help the team. Elsewhere, Rory (Dominic Purcell) asks Stein (Victor Garber) for help and makes him promise to keep it a secret from the team.

Also starring are Caity Lotz, Franz Dameh and Maisie Richardson-Sellers.

In other developments, "Legends of Tomorrow" has been officially renewed for Season 3 on the CW. A premiere date has not been set.
