After his short-lived romance with Rosalind Pike, it remains a mystery as to whether Coulson can still get a shot at a new romance on "Agents of SHIELD." Although there's been some sexual tension between him and Agent May, the former director's lovelife has been stagnant.

As the superhero series moves forward for the second half of Season 4, things may still change for Coulson. His portrayer, Clark Gregg, recently addressed this matter in an interview with Comic Book.com - and the actor seems hopeful that romantic sparks will soon find him.

"Wouldn't that be nice? I wouldn't wish it on anybody because the last person he made out with was only around for another couple of days, but Grant Ward got taken out in return, so maybe it will be a safer swiping experience," Gregg said.

The actor also dropped a hint that Coulson's potential new love interest is someone viewers have already encountered.

"Maybe it will be somebody new that we meet, maybe it will be somebody we've known for a while."

"Agents of SHIELD" returns this week (Jan. 10) with its midseason premiere titled "Broken Promises." Picking up from where it left viewers off, the episode will continue exploring the LMD storyline which took Agent May as its first victim.

Executive producer Jed Whedon has previewed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly how this interesting arc will play out throughout the remaining episodes.

"Now we get to explore a little bit more of what it means when you take a person and replace them, the emotional repercussions of that," the showrunner explained.

"We'll see how that affects May as a prisoner, and what her situation ends up being, and the android replacement of her, we'll get a glimpse into what her psychology is and get to explore both of those things, as well as Fitz dealing with the repercussions of, "Oh no, I helped make a monster."

"Agents of SHIELD" airs every Tuesday at 10PM on ABC.
