Recent rumors are out that the New York Knicks could target Denver Nuggets power forward Kenneth Faried before this season's trade deadline.

Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek began his coaching debut in New York with a 16-13 record, enough to get his team up to the third spot in the East. However, things went south again as the season progressed with the squad winning just once in their last eight matches.

The Knicks are currently 11th in the Eastern Conference standings with a 17-20 record. If the trend continues, it looks like the Big Apple squad is headed to another playoff-less year of disappointment for the NBA's biggest market.

With that, New York is projected to become one of the busiest teams in the league as the February trade deadline draws near as Phil Jackson is expected to attempt to re-structure their roster once more.

One the teams who are also looking to shake up their roster this trade period is the Denver Nuggets. ESPN indicated that the team is "now openly shopping third-year big man Jusuf Nurkic in addition to the widely assumed availability of vets Danilo Gallinari, Kenneth Faried, and Wilson Chandler".

For the Knicks, it could be an opportunity for them to tweak their roster for the better by adding a quality veteran player to their side.

Fansided suggested that New York could deal for six-year pro Faried, who has been one of the best players in the league when it comes to doing the things which are not being recorded in the stat sheet.

Faried's energy and hustle could become infectious to the Knicks players should they push through with acquiring him, which would answer their current key issues on defense and overall team intensity.

The 27-year-old former Morehead State standout could also particularly help the team when it comes to defensive rebounding, something that has been their weakness in the past couple of years.

However, it would interesting to see how Faried would fit with the Knicks since the team already has Porzingis at the number four spot and Carmelo Anthony at the three. Faried would be too small to play at the center position so he will more likely play a backup role in New York.
