2017 is shaping up to be a great start for superhero TV shows. The CW has given early renewals to "Arrow," "The Flash," "Supergirl" and "Legends of Tomorrow."

The announcement was made by CW President Mark Pedowitz at the Television Critics Association (TCA) winter press tour on Sunday, Variety reported. All four shows are now safe from the network's cancellation block, and are now officially part of the 2017-18 TV season. Official premiere dates of the shows' respective new seasons will be announced at a later time.

In addition, the broadcast network has also renewed "Supernatural," "Jane the Virgin" and "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend."

"Over the past several seasons, The CW has built a schedule of proven performers, from our lineup of DC superheroes, to critically acclaimed comedies, to sci-fi dramas," said Pedowitz in a statement.

"Early pickups of these seven series now allow our producers to plan ahead for next season, and gives us a solid base to build on for next season, with original scripted series to roll out all year long."

In addition to the seven series getting renewed, news about "The Flash" were also dropped by co-executive producer Andrew Kreisberg.

Kreisberg revealed that they will feature a two-part episode of Gorilla Grodd in the back half of season 3. Specifically, fans of the series will see the sentient gorilla returning in episodes 13 and 14 - which will also feature the debut of Solovar, the king of Gorilla City.

Grodd will be joined by another familiar villain, Black Flash. However, Kreisberg teased that he might be seen on multiple shows and not solely on "The Flash."

"He will [be] the classic comic book Grim Reaper aspect," Kreisberg said.

"It's just going to be on multiple shows. He's a classic character and we have storylines on multiple shows that fit having him return."
