Netflix confirmed it will air its first Korean original drama series titled "Love Alarm" in 2018.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the American video service provider made the announcement on Thursday, confirming that Netflix will produce a 12-part series based on Kye Young Chon's comic strip.

Reports stated "Love Alarm" will be produced by Jaemoon Lee from a production company called Hidden Sequence. The producer is best-known for his works "Signal" and "An Incomplete Life (a.k.a. Misaeng)."

On the other hand, Kye Young Chon's "Love Alarm" is popular among South Koreans. The webtoon series is a story of an unknown developer who created a love-finding app.

"We want "Love Alarm," the TV series, to exhibit the liveliness and expression of emotions, with visual treatments that will reflect Ms. Chon's vision when she created the story," Jaemoon Lee said in a dispatch.

The producer added he is excited to know the reactions of millions of Netflix subscribers upon watching "Love Alarm" in the video streaming site. Jaemoon Lee also promised that the upcoming Korean drama series will depict the modern romance.

Meanwhile, Netflix said it is an honor for them to be working with Kye Young Chon and Jaemoon Lee for the first Korean original drama series.

"Working together, we look forward to transforming this wildly imaginative story into a top-quality drama series for over 86 million Netflix members around the world," said Erik Barmack, VP of international series for Netflix.

Yonhap revealed Netflix is planning to release all 12 episodes of "Love Alarm" simultaneously instead or airing an episode per week. Meaning, viewers can binge-watch all the episodes of the Korean drama series in one sitting.

"With our leading global network, we look forward to spreading the value of cartoon-based content across the world as part of the "hallyu" trend," the video service provider added.
