"Attack on Titan" has definitely come a long way from its humble beginning as a magazine feature in 2009. After it has gained acclaim for its original story, it became a stand alone manga series which is now on its 21st volume.

It has been turned into a television anime series in 2013 which led to it to being adapted into a novel, several video games, and a live-action film. The popularity of "Attack on Titan" is imminent on the multiple platforms to which it was made available.

But the manga series is reaching new heights according to Screen Rant, when it was announced at New York Comic Con 2015 that a huge cross-cultural promotion of the immensely popular "Attack on Titan" series is being planned. In fact, there are now talks of "Attack on Titan" live-action series being developed to cater the needs of the series' growing fan base.

The 25-episode first season of "Attack on Titan" in 2013, while a commercial success, has not been followed up with a second season. Although there has been an announcement of a season 2 at the Tokyo International Forum earlier this year, there is yet any concrete information pertaining to the release date of "Attack on Titan" season 2.

However, according to Funimation, "Attack on Titan" season 2 is to be released in April 2017.

"'Attack on Titan' became an instant hit since it first streamed in 2013 and we are thrilled to bring fans the long-awaited Season 2 of the series," said Gen Fukunaga, the CEO and founder of Funimation.

"'Attack on Titan' is truly a worldwide phenomenon that has continued to grow at a non-stop pace. Fans can look forward to an exciting second season."

"'Attack on Titan' is one of those rare titles that has reached true cult status with anime fans," said Mike DuBoise, the EVP and COO of Funimation.

"It's been more than 3 years since the last episode of 'Attack on Titan' Season 1 and passion from its fans has not waned. We look forward to premiering it on FunimationNow."

The announcement made by Funimation is silent, however, as to when the series will be released for fans outside of Japan. Funimation has already partnered with Kodansha, a comic publisher, to distribute "Attack on Titan" in the US and Canada.

"Attack on Titan" is available for streaming in FunimationNOW in Japan in April 2017.
