In an attempt to tie up the disparate stories from all the episodes in Season 7, The Walking Dead's midseason ender somehow become bloated. Viewers have to follow six different stories all at once. It's like all the meaningful content that fans wanted to see after the first two episodes were all crammed up together in one episode, "Hearts Still Beating."

Episode 8 covered all the major narratives such as Negan's break in Alexandria, Michonne and some lady from the Savior group, Maggie and Gregory's story, Rick and Aaron, Daryl escape attempt, Spencer's story, and more, Forbes reported. Most of the characters also have their own moment from Sasha to Enid, Rosita to Eugene, and more.

With a downward slope in ratings, "The Walking Dead" simply needs some death and gore. Fans were given the violence they asked for in the form of Spencer being butchered by Negan. However, the gore and disembowelment looked more like an 80s horror movie and became somewhat comedic than scary, Telegraph reported.

Some fans were left to think that Spencer's death is not important to move the plot forward. However, one good thing about the episode is that Rick finally opened his eyes. He finally realized that there is no compromising when dealing with the Saviors, especially Negan.

Spencer's plan to get closer with Negan and destroy them from within was obvious, not only for the viewers, but for Negan as well. And the Savior's leader simply doesn't like it when people think they can outsmart him. It was clear that Spencer was definitely going to get what was coming to him.

After his death, Rosita's point blank range single shot for Negan was stopped by barbwire riddled baseball bat Lucille. Now, after this part, the show suddenly and unintentionally became more comedic than Spencer's guts.

But before that, it seems like Daryl has gone full psycho killing the funny Fat Joseph after escaping. He also let an eye-witness go, which only shows how far crazy he has gone.

Now, if Alexandria's residents don't fight back, they will also suffer Spencer's fate. Rick is finally back and its time to fight.
