Google's mobile operating system Android is already on its 7th iteration with the codename "Nougat." Although adoption of the latest OS is relatively slow, Samsung is already working on the latest version of Android for its select flagship devices.

Beta Program for Nougat Update

One of the biggest handset manufacturers in the world is working on Android Nougat specifically set for release on their flagship mobile devices. According to Android Headlines, the popular electronics company recently opened their Galaxy Beta Program for users and developers to try. The program is open for Samsung Galaxy users who wants to help develop the upcoming Android version of Samsung.

Although the beta program provides a sneak peek of the upcoming Android version, it should be noted that beta applications and operating system are still on its development phase. Those who update their firmware should expect a complete wipe on their mobile device.

Targeting Flagship Galaxy Phones

The beta program announced by Samsung is beneficial for the company and its users. The sneak peek of the power of Nougat is in full display but Samsung wants to make sure that their native applications will work as sleek as possible in the past.

According to Sammobile, Samsung is developing their version of Android Nougat for most of their flagship phones. Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S7 are already confirmed for an update while the Galaxy 5 and Tab S2 are also getting an update on their devices.

But aside from confirming the upcoming Android Nougat on various popular devices, Samsung is already gearing for the release by preparing their own User Interface. Samsung's TouchWiz will also go through some subtle transformation so it will work seamlessly with the upcoming Android version.

Difference in Features and Expected Release Date

Samsung is currently on beta version for Android Nougat and the electronics company is also working hard to incorporate their TouchWiz. Although there is no definite date on OTA of both devices, the release of a stable version in Nougat is expected for 2017. Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S7 are expected to receive the first Android update next year.
